1. Multidisciplinary team care: best practice in liver disease management

1.1 Context

  • Multidisciplinary team (MDT) care — including contributions from oncologists, hepatologists, gastroenterologists, surgeons, and diagnostic/interventional radiologists — represents best practice in the diagnosis and management of liver disease. Multidisciplinary discussion is recommended to develop individualized patient-tailored approaches to management, resulting in increased survival.
  • American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases (AASLD):

“HCC patients should be seen in these [multidisciplinary] clinics whenever it is feasible, and, if not, a referral to a center with a true multidisciplinary clinic should be considered.”
